How I ended up in Montreal is a mystery even to me, but I did it and I don’t regret a single moment of it.
I was browsing through the web and saw that there was a cheap flight from Vancouver to Montreal, and next thing you know there was a $250 charge on my credit card.
(I had found the deal on YVR Deals, they have great flight deals from all major flight hubs in Canada, feel free to check them out)
Though the state of mind I was in when I had booked the flight was questionable at best, my itinerary and planning skills were not affected by my state of disillusion. If you want to follow the same itinerary that I did, along with the map that I had planned out for this trip, click this link and you can get it for free.
Now, without further ado, please enjoy the antics that I had run into while I was in Montreal.
Day 1
Coming in from Vancouver was brutal because despite the flight only being approximately 4-5 hours long, the time difference made me feel like I lost more time than that.
We had booked an Airbnb near Jean Talon market, right across the Pharmaprix. It was quite a trek from the airport. In order to catch the bus, we had to get an OPUS card, and luckily they had a vending machines in the airport right across the busses that allowed you to easily get an OPUS card and hop on the bus in less than 5 minutes. I had no issues catching the bus from the airport to a subway line.
Despite Montreal still being a part of Canada, I was in for a bit of culture shock. The overall feel and look of Montreal is a lot more rustic compared to Vancouver. While Vancouver is already extremely transit and walking friendly, I would say that Montreal was a new level.
Upon checking into the Airbnb, I made my way to a highly recommended chicken place called Ma Poule Mouilée. (For more information, check out my intinerary here)
We got there around 7pm and there was a line already. I will soon learn that there is a constant line at this location.
We ordered the chicken burger and the poutine. Overall, I would give the burger an 8/10 and a the poutine was a tad too salty for my preference but was still an 8/10.
You can’t tell me that that doesn’t look absolutely delicious.
As we had a day of travel already, I was absolutely exhausted and decided to call it a day. Stay tuned for what we did on day 2.
